2021 Annual Conference - Second Call For Abstracts

Dear members and friends of the Canadian Biomaterials Society,

The 36th Annual General Meeting will be held from May 13th to May 15th on Hopin, a virtual conference platform. The theme for this conference is “Translational Biomaterials and Beyond”. Please visit the website.

We would like to remind you that abstracts are now being accepted! Abstracts will be accepted until 11:59pm EST on February 17th, 2021.

CBS membership is not required in order to submit an abstract and abstract submission is free.

The site uses a template and you will be asked to indicate the topic areas that best fit your abstract. An FAQ document is provided to guide you.We intend to provide as many opportunities for oral presentations as possible.

EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! Members pay a lower registration fee, so be sure to be become a member or renew your membership! This year, registration fees are very low, and we are accepting undergraduate registrations for only $12. If you are an undergraduate student, please submit proof of your status, such as a scan of your student card or any other evidence, to conferences@biomaterials.ca .

We have arranged five exciting plenary speakers! They are:

  • Prof. Molly Shoichet, University of Toronto
  • Dr. Michael May, CCRM, Toronto
  • Prof. Linda Griffith, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • Prof. Francois Barthelat, University of Colorado, Boulder
  • Prof. Marcus Buehler, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

We will also receive keynote talks by Prof. Paul Santerre (Toronto), recipient of the CBS Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020, and Prof. Marc Gauthier (INRS), recipient of the CBS Early Career Investigator Award in 2020.

We will have plenty of symposia and workshops with their own keynote and invited speakers over the course of the conference. These include:

  • Clinical/Industrial Partnerships
  • 3D Bioprinting in Tissue Engineering
  • BiomaterialsMediated Non-Viral Gene Delivery
  • Mechanics of Biomaterials and Tissues
  • Innate Immune Response to Biomaterials
  • Ophthalmic Drug Delivery


The Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Biomaterials Society will be held on Friday, May 14th, 2021. There will be a Fireside Chat on translation and commercialization. Networking and student engagement activities are also being planned.
